Stew Buchanan, DGE 6630

Stew Buchanan was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and moved to northeast Ohio when he was 10. His parents owned cottages on Lake Erie and Stew and his siblings helped with the maintenance and clean up during the summer. Stew remains committed to this area by still having a cottage on his old homestead. His children and grandchildren enjoy the summer months there and he has been known to still water ski on Lake Erie!

He graduated from Madison High School in 1954 where he participated in band, choir, track, football, baseball and basketball. This was the beginning of his total involvement in the things going on around him and his life long passion for sports. His passion for doing his best in everything he tries is reflected in the fact he was salutatorian of his high school class.

Stew received his BA from Wittenberg University in 1958 and spent the next 50 years pursuing his love of numbers. He started his career with The Arthur Anderson Accounting firm. He was the first graduate from Wittenberg ever hired by The Arthur Anderson Accounting Firm. He received his certified public accounting (CPA) license in 1960 and has continued in public accounting ever since. Currently Stew is semi retired and has decreased the work hours to enjoy other aspects of his life. He still remains available to his clients and keeps his CPA license current even through retirement.

His involvement in Rotary has been over a period of 25 years including club president for 3 years, a Paul Harris fellow, chairman of fund raising, international students, treasurer, and many other responsibilities. At the district level he has served as District secretary for 2 ˝ years, chairman of the Finance committee, conference committee member 3 years and secretary one year. He has also served on the All Ohio Pets Steering committee for two years. He has attended three international conferences and comes away renewed in his belief about all of the good done by Rotarians all over the world.

Stew has been active in his community his entire life. He was a Municipal Judge in Indiana, referee for high school sporting events, president of Wittenberg Senate, president of Kiwanis, a volunteer fireman in Eastlake , Ohio, a volunteer at the NEC World Series of Golf, and member and officer in the Wahoo Club and the Rebounders ( booster clubs for the professional sports teams) to name a few of his activities. He continues his volunteer efforts by being the treasurer for his church.

Stew has four children—Leslie, Lindley, Michelle and Misti and a stepson Todd Morgan. He is also the proud grandfather of Brandon, Jordan, Tyler, Rylee, Joe, Jack and Genevieve.

Stew and his wife Cheryl have been married 25 years. She is a registered nurse and currently is an assistant professor at the University of Akron. Stew and Cheryl enjoy sporting events, grandkids and Rotary!
